simple steps to measuring yourseld at home
let's get started!
To obtain accurate measurements, make sure that the measuring tape is parallel to the floor and not drooping.
Read the measurement when the measuring tape is snug against your skin - DO NOT leave any extra space and breathe normally when measuring.
It is recommended to take your measurements when only wearing undergarments but if you are to be professionally measured, be sure to wear light form-fitting clothes (for example: fitted tank top and leggings).
1. a soft flexible 60-inch measuring tape
2. a full-length mirror (if you will be measuring yourself)
3. wear undergarments that you'll be wearing with the dress
4. wear light form-fitting clothes to ensure accurate measurements
1. BUST
When wearing the bra you intend to wear with your dress, wrap the measuring tape around your back and bring it across the fullest part of your bust. Make sure that the measuring tape is parallel to the floor and not drooping at the back. ** Your bra size is NOT the same as your bust measurement. **
2. natural waist
Your natural waist is typically just below your rib cage and about 2 inches above your belly button. When looking in the mirror, you will see that your natural waist is the narrowest part of your torso.
3. hips
Stand in a relaxed position with both feet slightly apart and measure around the widest part of your hips. Your hips are usually 8 - 9 inches below your natural waist.
selecting a size
When selecting your size, refer to OUR size chart below. Please note that the measurements listed in our size chart are for YOUR BODY, not the garment. If you are between sizes, it is usually (depending on the design) a good idea to size up to accommodate the larger measurements as it is easier to take in the seams rather than resizing a piece that is too small.
OUR STANDARD SIZING
All of our items including: wedding gowns, evening dresses, and ready to wear pieces are Made To Order based on CHALISA Designs' standard sizing; therefore, alterations are usually required to obtain the most flattering optimal fit.
Although our dresses are made based on a standard size, we ask for your height range and take your body shape into consideration. With this information, our dress patterns will differ in its construction even for the same design to accommodate unique body shapes and to help simplify your alteration process.
** If your size is not listed in OUR size chart below, please contact our stylist team via email at stylist@chalisadesigns.com to place an order. **
mistakes to avoid
- While measuring, measure over your undergarments or wear light-fitted clothes for accurate measurements.
- Read the measurement when the measuring tape is snug but not too tight to your skin.
- Your bust measurement must include your bra and the bra size printed on its tag IS NOT your bust size.
- Your waist must be measured at the natural waist level NOT around or below your belly button.
- Please refer to OUR size chart as sizing varies between brands.
